Sickies
Saturday, Kaylee and I went to a babyshower for Rebekah from work, and afterwards, Kaylee had a friend over. Now, personally, I remember thinking when I picked this friend up, that she looked sick to me, glassy eyed, kind of sad look. Soon after the friend left, Kaylee said she felt really tired and just not herself. She wouldn't eat and became pale and clammy and at one point, almost threw up. This went on all weekend and Monday she went to the doctor. She stayed home the rest of the day Monday and then had her first chicken pox bump on Monday night while I was at work. On waking Tuesday morning, they were all over. Thankfully, she did receive the varicella vaccine so this is not the worst case of chicken pox. Commence the baking soda baths, calamine lotion, benadryl, and fear that the other kids will get it. A mother's work is NEVER done! To add to the chaos, I receive a call at 3:00 p.m., exactly one half hour before school lets out for the day, from the school nurse. Ryan is in the office not feeling well! I go to pick him up, but of course, he has this smirky smile on his face, that one he gets when he is guilty of something. They inform me he has been in the bathroom a few times today, but despite that, I am ready to chalk this one up to a good fake out. So, we're off to Ron's work to change cars and kids so that I can go to work. I was on my cell with the doctor's office trying to get the nurse to fax over to the school an absence note for 5 days for Kaylee and Ryan's vaccine info when it happened. The gush and the sound of that gush hitting the van carpet floor. Ryan had barfed, all over himself, his backpack, Kara (sitting next to him), and the seatbelt. Now comes the smell! Keep in mind, I am driving 50mph and on the phone with a nurse. So, I do what any self respecting mother would do. I say to the nurse "OHHHHHHHH, he just puked all over my van!" and then I put the windows down despite the speed we're travelling! Nevermind the screaming Kara has now started to belt out because of the smell and the fact that her nemesis' vomit has landed in the vicinity of her, let alone actually ON her carseat and clothing! She tells Ryan he is gross while crying. The nurse proceeds to wish me fun on my ride home. Ryan is sitting in the backseat with puke all over him (not a little puke, we're talking a WHOLE lotta puke). It is all over his face and hands (he had his hands up to stop it from coming out I guess), and he is holding out his hands and arms from his body like he's going to prevent himself from getting any MORE puke on him!!! Kaylee is just looking at Ryan and the situation in shock. Kara is still screaming mixed with crying. Good times, I tell you! If you had been a fly on the wall when we got home, you would have laughed your tiny little fly ass off! Me, pulling five kids out of the car and trying to get them to step OVER the puke and into the house without getting any on me or the floor in the house! HAHAHAHA! Me getting Ryan's clothes off and into the washer and then marching him upstairs naked to the shower, the baby now crying (but at least I remembered her), and Caden crying because he never wants to come home. Then, as I proceed to start the process of clean up in the van, Kaylee screaming to me in panic that Ryan is screaming from the shower. I race upstairs, thinking he is having some crisis, only to find out that the water is too cold. We should be on a reality tv show! Today, I am going to work, and I don't care! I need out of this germ infested haven!

I'm sorry to say, but as a fly from behind the computer screen (as opposed to the wall)...I was laughing my ass off. At least the smell didn't trigger the vomit domino effect, because then you'd really have a mess on your hands (not that you didn't have enough to deal with already). I'll bet that drive into work was a great relief...except for the lingering stink :) Hang in there, and I'm sending get well wishes to all the little sickies in your house.
