BUSTED

Ryan lost a second tooth this past week, so the Tooth Fairy has been busy! That night, while feeding Jillian at 1:30 am, the Tooth Fairy had forgotten about it! I usually try to make sure when the kids put their teeth in the tooth box or envelope, that it is close to the edge of the pillow, so as to make it easier for the Tooth Fairy to find and pull the treasure from beneath. However, this particular night, I had forgotten that too. So, as the 4:30-5:00 am feeding rolled around, I remembered! I feared that the Tooth Fairy would be caught, because it was so late in the morning and the kids are not as sound asleep as they are at, say, midnight. So, as I crept in, with dollar in hand, I reached underneath the pillow and cursed myself for not pulling that envelope to the edge because it was smack dab in the middle of the pillow. Ryan was sleeping toward the edge of the pillow, so that I would have to go in from right underneath his head! As I did, I stopped a couple times because it was so loud underneath him, with the scratching of my hand against the sheet and pillow....oh, the stress! Finally, I had hold of the envelope and as I started to pull it out, Ryan awoke, wide eyed and says in an accusatory manner "What are you doing?". I pulled my hand out from underneath the pillow and quickly made up the excuse that I was covering him up....So, I did cover him up and while doing that, he closed his eyes and I put the dollar under his pillow, but could not pull the envelope while he was still slightly awake. My thinking was, if I couldn't get that envelope, at least there was a dollar under there and I could make up the story that sometime the Tooth Fairy wants YOU to keep the tooth as a keepsake! I know, lame. So, I asked Ron to see if he could get it when he got up for work at 6am....and wouldn't you know? He did it! He came to the bedroom and said "I got it!", and I could envision us high fiving like we had accomplished some major, important task!!! Of course I didn't take in to consideration all these things that you do for kids i.e. Tooth Fairy, Santa Clause, Easter Bunny, etc. when I started having them. The baby part is easy compared to what I'm getting into with the older kids. I hear it only gets worse, and thinking back on my childhood and teen years, I fear the worst!
