Today's kid of the week is none other than the oldest Leck, Kaylee Nicole! Nicknames include Kaylee 'Cole, pumpkin (when she was little), Kayyee (by younger siblings), and Skinny Minny (just like Grandma Frey used to call me!). I can hardly believe she has gotten so big right in front of my eyes, and I didn't even see it happen. She is this tall thin girl, and when I look at her sometimes, I can get a glimpse of how she might be as a young teen or woman. I certainly have HEARD examples of what I might hear when she becomes a teenager. She occasionally turns into this moody, emotional mess, but for the most part is the model child. I am telling you, this kid is amazing. She is smart, an excellent reader, gets along great with ALL her siblings and friends at school, and helps me out tremendously at home. From the day she was born, she never seemed baby-like to me. She seemed to be saying to me "Ok, what's next, enough of this babyhood!" She can be very shy, I still have to pick up after her because she can be very forgetful, but she has never seemed "helpless" to me like babies are. I pierced her ears at 9 weeks of age because she seemed so grown up to me. She cried for literally a second. I would never, and haven't done that to Kara or Jillian. Kaylee just seemed to me like she wouldn't have been affected by it, and she wasn't.
Kaylee likes to sing, dance, read, swim, play on the internet (especially with her webkinz) and play softball. She actually swims with older kids (ages 11-12) when she does lessons because she is 1/4 fish/mermaid. She is into dangly earrings, Magic Treehouse books, American girls including Kailey and Jess, fuzzy socks, soft comfy pants, nailpolish, her hair, and playing mom to Caden and Jillian. She is a great friend to girls at school and is always the one trying to patch things up when a dispute begins on the playground. She is an A student, on student council, brownies, and chess club. She and Ryan have a great relationship and I think that's because it was the two of them first. They are little buddies, usually looking out for one another. I could go on and on about what a great kid she is, but I'm sure you can tell by the number of pictures I've included, so I will stop here, otherwise we'll be here all day.
