The enlightening

So, I was telling Kim today that I had an epiphany last week...so I thought I would blog about it for anyone who has a kid like my Caden. Most people who read this blog know that I often "complain" about Caden saying things like "he's different", "not as bright", "has issues". And most of you know why I say that. Caden has been slower than the rest of them in everything he does. He walked late, talked late (and still struggles, but is getting better), lacks common sense, is a horrid fan of routine, and just in general goes at his own pace. When asked what his favorite toy is will say chicken nuggets...you know where I'm going with this. Not compared to anyone, he is fine. Compared to the other Leck kids, even Jillian who has surpassed him or levels him on some things, it is tangible. However, last week, while sitting at the table eating lunch, Caden starts laughing uncontrollably and I ask him what he is laughing at. He replies that he doesn't know, but that he will stop! So, on saying he is going to stop, he continues to do it, and even moreso! A belly giggle..the best kind. I take him outside and push him on the swing, and again he begins to laugh uncontrollably. Later on in the day, he is greeting every passerby and the hot guy on our neighbor's roof, saying "HI!". My epiphany came that day. It was that I no longer care how "different" he may be from the others, because I know he is the HAPPIEST of them all...not one of my other kids are as carefree and happy as he is. Not ONE of them would say hello to a stranger, or laugh uncontrollably for no reason at all. I want to take more example from Caden instead of criticizing him. After all, he will not be 21 telling me that his favorite ice cream flavor is Lightning McQueen...well, at least I hope not!

From a mom of 4 "different" boys...I could give you a lot of understanding and enlightening. You already figured out the first step...stop comparing Caden and just enjoy him for the sweet little guy that he is. His sweet spirit will touch you in the most significant ways.
